Access to abundant, affordable energy is a key factor in economic growth, whether supplying the manufacturing plants of the 20th century or the server farms of the 21st century. Unfortunately, the federal government has placed unreasonable restrictions on domestic exploration and development, and foreign sources are sometimes actually hostile to our own interests.
New discoveries and innovative technologies have made possible the extraction of enormous new energy resources within the United States. The U.S. possesses not only enormous natural energy resources but also the technology to extract those resources in a responsible manner.
IPI believes that the United States should become as energy self-sufficient as possible, drawing upon a diverse energy base comprised of all possible energy resources. We believe that free people operating within a free economy using voluntary risk capital will out-innovate government-directed central planning funded by taxpayer dollars. The key to energy innovation is abundant capital, a tax system that rewards rather than punishes success, an intellectual property system that allows innovators to own the fruits of their research, and a regulatory environment that balances the needs of our economy with the protection of the environment.
Trump Pipeline Action Boon to U.S. Job Creation
By advancing the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipeline projects, President Donald Trump is not only moving to unshackle the energy industry and promote a more secure United States, but is giving the green light to create a wealth of middle class jobs.

Exporting Oil and Natural Gas Will Import Economic Growth
President Barack Obama opened the door to exporting U.S. oil and natural gas; the Trump administration is likely to drive a tanker through it.

EPA Backtracks on Fracking: Political Pressure Likely Driving the Flip
Today’s EPA statement clearly shows the agency’s final position on fracking and drinking water has been co-opted by the environmental movement.
On Fracking, EPA Should Stand With the Science
In a piece authored for The Hill’s Congress Blog, Merrill Matthews argues that EPA’s final hydraulic fracturing study should keep the conclusion set out in the report’s 2015 draft, in which the agency said it found no evidence fracking has led to “widespread, systemic impacts on drinking water resources in the United States.”
Rethinking the Ethanol Standard
We don’t need to eliminate the ethanol industry, just the mandate to use it. Let consumers decide at the gas pump if they want ethanol in their gasoline.
The EPA Will Likely Conclude Fracking Doesn't Affect Drinking Water
The EPA is confirming what scientists have known for years: Fracking poses no harm to water supplies.
