IRVING – The Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI) is honored to host acclaimed civil liberties attorney Alan M. Dershowitz in Irving on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, as the next of its Hatton W. Sumners Distinguished Lecture Series.
Professor Dershowitz, a regular contributor on CNN and Fox News, is a world-renowned litigator and has represented a series of celebrity clients, including Julian Assange, Mike Tyson and Patty Hearst. He has been called “the best-known criminal lawyer in the world” and “Israel’s single most visible defender – the Jewish state’s lead attorney in the court of public opinion.”
“We are delighted to bring Professor Dershowitz to Dallas,” said IPI president Tom Giovanetti. “A great communicator, guardian of our civil liberties and passionate defender of the U.S. Constitution, we welcome his important insights on the critical issues of today and the current state of political discourse.”
“There is something worrisome about the current frenzy of criminal investigations,” writes Dershowitz in the New York Times of the state of politics today. “To me they point to a frightening trend that afflicts both Democrats and Republicans: the criminalization of political differences.” He dedicates his latest book, Trumped Up: How Criminalization of Political Differences Endangers Democracy, to “the shrinking number of true civil libertarians who place more importance on the rights and liberties of all Americans than on the partisan benefits of distorting the law to target political enemies.”
In addition to Trumped Up, Dershowitz is the author of 30 other fiction and non-fiction works, including his autobiography, Taking the Stand: My Life in the Law, as well as The New York Times #1 bestseller Chutzpah, Rights From Wrong; The Case For Israel; and The Case For Peace.
IPI’s Hatton W. Sumners Distinguished Lecture Series featuring Alan Dershowitz takes place at noon on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, at the Omni Mandalay in Las Colinas.
