What is the Role of Intellectual Property in the Global Recovery?

Intellectual property, the driver and economic cornerstone of the U.S. economy, is under attack on a global scale. Just how the economic slowdown affects IP and innovation will be the topic of discussion at our fourth annual World Intellectual Property Day event, “The Role of Intellectual Property in the Global Recovery,” Thursday, April 30, in Washington D.C.

IPI is honored to have Congressman Marsha Blackburn (TN-07), a staunch defender of American ingenuity, innovation and talent both here and around the world, providing keynote remarks on the challenges of rampant counterfeiting and piracy and what solutions can unleash the power of IP.

Entertainment Software Association president Michael Gallagher will also give keynote remarks on pro-growth trade policies vital to both protecting and promoting IP.

Speaking on the future of innovation are creative insiders, Dan DiDio, Senior Vice-President and Executive Editor of DC Comics, and Mark McKinnon, Chairman of Arts+Labs. Moderating this discussion is TechAmerica president Philip Bond.

Attendees of the event will get the inside scoop from key players in the global trade arena on how protectionism impacts innovation. Featured in this conversation are Kira Alvarez, Chief IP Negotiator with the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative; Shaun Donnelly, Senior Director of International Business Policy with the National Association of Manufacturers; and David Thomas, Minority Counsel with the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee. The panel will be moderated by Chris Israel, IPI senior research fellow and former U.S. Coordinator for International Intellectual Property Enforcement.

Attendees will also learn more about the role of intellectual property in a struggling economy from the defenders of IP rights, including Dr. Mark Esper, Executive Vice President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Global Intellectual Property Center; William N. Hulsey III, Principal of Hulsey Intellectual Property Lawyers, PC; Jonathan Zuck, President of the Association for Competitive Technology; and E. Andre Carter, founder and president of Irimi, Inc.
