The best justification I've read of late for having the electoral college comes from Dr. Merrill Matthews.

Tom Giovanetti, president IPI, said he was “forced to testify in cautious opposition to the legislation and it is not because we do not value property rights and it is not because we are not sympathetic to situations where this is an unwilling seller.” But he said the bill — being limited to only private, for-profit companies — seems to assume “that private sector use of eminent domain is somehow more subject to abuse than government use or that there is something that is actually inappropriate about private sector use of eminent domain.”

A new poll finds Americans like the idea of 'Medicare for all,' but only the initial sound of it. It also finds that support for "Medicare for all" drops when people are asked if they support higher taxes and waiting for care. Merrill Matthews, Ph.D., of The Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI) has been saying so for months.

“He didn’t have much choice,” said Institute for Policy Innovation innovator Merrill Matthews. “He faced nonstop negative coverage from the mainstream press and Democrats and decided to cut his losses. A prudent move.”
