Although the U.S. has been a beneficent steward of the Internet, the Obama administration has recently decided to give it away. What’s the compelling reason for the U.S. to surrender control? In remarks delivered at the 2014 Red State Gathering, IPI president Tom Giovanetti warns that a majority of the world’s countries would like to see the functions of the Internet severed from the United States in order to change the way it works, and make it easier to filter and restrict websites, free speech, and especially political speech. This would put an end to the Internet as we know it today.
