This morning, the agenda item at the WIPO
General Assembly meeting is the Broadcast Treaty.
I've blogged a little bit on the Treaty before, but not much. The IP skeptic activists HATE the Broadcast Treaty.
The news this morning is that Iran, speaking for the Asia Group, has indicated that they do not support moving the Broadcast Treaty to a diplomatic conference, which is the next step if the Treaty is to go forward.
Right now, delegation after delegation is speaking in favor of moving to a diplomatic conference. But, as I have explained before, WIPO is a consensus-based organization, so if a single delegation refuses to support something, it cannot go forward.
So the wisdom in the room right now is that Iran has killed the diplomatic treaty. But we'll see.
