More on whether open source can outcompete proprietary solutions

There's more this week on whether open source can outcompete proprietary solutions--this time from the Wall Street Journal.

According to the article, entitled "Linux Feels Growing Pains As Users Demand More Features," some who added Linux to their portfolio of software solutions for perceived short-term cost savings are reconsidering their decisions, or at least are hesitant to become more dependent on a solution that hasn't yet "narrowed the gap" in features and customization.

[Tommy Hilfiger] had been running its Web shopping site, Tommy.com, on Linux -- but recently switched it to Microsoft software. [Eric Singleton, chief information officer at retailer Tommy Hilfiger Corp.] calls Linux "a great product," but adds, "it's got to get the final tier of reliability and predictability that I'm going to bet a multibillion-dollar corporation's future on."
