Speaking at the Texas Economic Forum’s recent May 9 event, “Trump and the Texas Economy,” presented by the William J. O'Neil Center for Global Markets and Freedom at SMU in Dallas, IPI’s Dr. Merrill Matthews offers insight in a presentation called “Texas, Trump & Energy.”
Comparing the president’s policies on Texas and energy to a famous Texas dance, Dr. Matthews discusses two important initial steps made by the administration to foster energy expansion:
- The president’s March 28, 2017 executive order supporting energy independence and economic growth; and
- Open doors for pipelines, offshore oil and gas leases, and relaxing of renewable fuel standards.
In the presentation, Matthews explores how these initiatives have had a major impact on Texas’s economy, including jobs, manufacturing, and rig deployment. And as a warning, Matthews also draws attention to what a potential trade war’s impact has already had on the Lone Star State.
